With public attention focused squarely on veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, there is a tendency to overlook the fact that the nation's 22 million veterans served in all periods of war and in peacetime. Veterans are not a monolithic population, but a diverse group, including age, gender, and period of military service. Naturally, differences may arise from time to time between veterans from different generations and between the many veterans’ organizations that represent and serve them.
